Thomas Flood Dies Today at the Hospital
Thomas Flood, age 79 and a resident of this community since a young man, died
at 12:30 o'clock this morning at the St. Mary's Hospital. Although Mr. Flood
had not been in good health for the past three or four years he was not taken
seriously ill until a few days ago and was removed to the hospital late
yesterday. Well known throughout the community, he leaves a large number of
friends to mourn his death.
Born in Poughkeepsie, N. Y. on May 7, 1857, he came to Illinois when 19 years
of age. For a number of years he engaged in farming in Pierce Township.
Fourteen years ago he moved to DeKalb, since which time the residence was made
at 903 Fourteenth Street.
Mr. Flood was married on December 3, 1882, to Miss Mary Riley of this city.
In addition to the many friends, he leaves to mourn his death his wife, Mrs.
Mary Flood, four sons and two daughters, John Flood and Miss Katherine Flood,
living at home; James Flood of Portland, Ore., Thomas Jr., of Maple Park,
Martin of Elmhurst and Mrs. May Potter of Geneva; one sister, Mrs. Sarah
Fitzgerald of DeKalb, two half sisters, Mrs. Mary McCabe of DeKalb, and Mrs.
Hannah O'Brien of Chicago and one half brother, Martin Marshall of DeKalb, and
ten grandchildren.
Funeral services are to be held on Friday morning at 9:00 o'clock from the St.
Mary's church, the Rt. Rev. Mgr. J.A. Solon to conduct the service. Internment
will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
