Ossie Hakala Dies Tuesday at Hospital
 
The entire community is today mourning the untimely passing of Ossie Hakala, 31, who passed away about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Illinois Research Hospital in Chicago.  Ill but a short time, he entered the hospital on Saturday and underwent major surgery Monday morning.  He never rallied from the ordeal and his condition remained critical until his death yesterday afternoon. 

A resident of DeKalb all his life, he was one of the most popular young men of the community.  He attended the public schools of this city and graduated from the DeKalb Township High School in 1932.  He was employed by the Northern Illinois Corporation for a period of fourteen years and only recently had purchased the Tex Ranch House and planned to enter business for himself. 

Ossie Hakala was born in DeKalb August 6, 1915, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Hakala.  He was united in marriage to Eleanor Busse of this city on January 19, 1939.  Mr. Hakala was a lifelong member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a member of the DeKalb Elks Lodge. 
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Hakala, one son, Larry, age six;  his mother, Mrs. Marie Hakala of DeKalb;  three sisters, Mrs. Roy L. Switzer and Mrs. Harry Lindsay, both of DeKalb, and Mrs. T. E. Allaway of St. Charles; and two brothers, Hugo J. Hakala, mayor of DeKalb, and Arnold Hakala of Rochelle.  A daughter, Holly Kay, died in infancy in 1944 and his father passed away January 31, 1937

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Ronan Mortuary with Rev. Walter J. Kukkonen, pastor of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, to officiate.  Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.  Friends may call at the mortuary after 8 o'clock this evening.
