Mrs. Annie Hartman

Final rites are to be accorded this Wednesday afternoon from the VanNatta Funeral Home for Mrs. Annie Walklate Hartman, 75, mother of Jack Hartman of Sycamore, who passed away Sunday [March 8, 1959] night around 11:30 o'clock at the local hospital.  She had been in failing health for some time, having suffered several strokes.

Rev. Paul D. Emenheiser of St. Peter's Episcopal Church will be the officiating clergyman and interment will take place in the Elmwood cemetery.

Mrs. Hartman was well known in this area, having owned and operated several beauty shops in DeKalb in 1924, later owning shope in Sandwich, Lee, Malta, Genoa and Sycamore.  She retired in 1943.

Mrs. Hartman had resided here with her son, also in Pecatonica with a daughter, Mrs. Albert Groeling, and during her residence in Sycamore had endeared herself to many.

She was born in Stratford, Canada on July 20, 1883, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Walklate.  She was educated in London, England and was married there to William Hartman, who died in 1949.

Last October, Mrs. Hartman returned from England, where she had spent two and one half years.

Surviving are her devoted son, Jack of Sycamore and a daughter, Mrs. Albert (Doris) Groeling of Pecato ica; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Ada and Maude Walklate of London, England.
