A. Askeland, 71, formerly of Esmond dies in Creston
Ole A. Askeland, age 71, former well known Esmond
resident, passed away
Tuesday morning at eleven o'clock at his home in Creston. He had been in
failing health for some time and critically ill the past two weeks.
Mr. Askeland was born in Haugesund, Norway, on March 15, 1875 and
was
married to Anna Dorothea Nordby on February 18, 1906. They came to the
United States in March of 1906 and settled on a farm three miles southwest of
Esmond where the home was made until March of this year when his health
failed and he gave up farming and moved to Creston. He was a member of
the
Lutheran Church in Creston for many years.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, three daughters, Mrs.
Lillian
Hintzshe of Esmond, Mrs. Laura Zimmerman and Mrs. Alice Hill, both of
Rochelle; six sons, Ole of Rochelle, Arthur of Creston, Theodore and Wilbur,
both at home, Lawrence in the Navy and stationed at Naples, Italy, and
Torval, formerly of DeKalb, but at present hospitalized at El Paso, Texas;
three brothers, Andrew of Leland, Iowa, Chris of St. James, Minn., and Louie
of Esmond; one sister, Mrs. John Kalen of Rockford; and 14 grandchildren.
A
daughter, Lenore died in 1942.
Funeral rites were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the
late
home and at 2 o'clock from the Creston Lutheran church with the Rev. Oygard
officiating. Burial took place in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Creston.
