NOVEMBER 23, 1937

This entire community was yesterday grievously shocked by the sudden death of Mrs. Mary Ann Hart.  A resident of the Milan community for many years, Mrs. Hart died shortly before 1:00 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the St. Mary's hospital, where she had been a patient for a week.

Mrs. Hart had not been in good health for the past three years, having been closely confined to her home.  She was taken seriously ill last Thursday with pneumonia and was removed to the St. Mary's hospital for treatment.

Although an invalid she promoted much joy and happiness among those who daily served her and those who had the great fortune of being her friends.  She leaves a beautiful memory of a loving mother and a faithful friend and no greater tribute can be paid to her memory.  In every way possible she upheld a cheerful disposition, although being unable to partake in the activities of the outside world, her life revolved around her family and friends and it was in the home that her happiest moments were spent.

Mary Ann Gannon was born on August 1, 1872 in County Galway, Ireland, the daughter of Charles and Mary Gannon.  While yet a young girl she came to America and made her home in DeKalb with her Aunt, Mrs. Thomas Mulroyan.  On April 13, 1891 she was united in marriage to Frank P. Hart of Milan.  The young couple moved immediately to the family home in Milan township and it was there that their nine children were born.  Three of the children died in infancy.  Mr. Hart died on August 2, 1908.

She is survived by six children, Francis, Charles, Thomas M., Stephen, Winnifred, and Cora, ten grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. William Hart of Sandwich and Mrs. Agnes Conaghan of DeKalb.
