William Hoppe, Sr., died at
his home in Chatsworth Saturday morning, October 28th (1922), at 6:30 o'clock,
death being attributed principally to the infirmities of age. Funeral services
were held from the home at 12:30 and at the Lutheran Church at 1 o'clock Monday
afternoon, the services being in charge of his pastor, the Rev. A.C. Huth, who
spoke in English, and the Rev. E.W. Kueth, of Cullom, who gave an address in
German. Burial was in the Chatsworth Cemetery.

was baptized in the Lutheran faith and remained steadfast until the end. He

four years and then moved to Danforth, Illinois. After a residence of seven
years they finally moved to Charlotte where Mr. Hoppe continued his
blacksmithing for several years and then settled on his farm 2 1/2 miles west
of Charlotte, devoting 23 years to farm life. For the past nine years he was a
resident of Charsworth, spending his last days of his life among his friends in
a peaceful home.
About two years ago his health began to fail, shortly, after Mr. and Mrs. Hoppe
had celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary and he gradually became more
and more feeble until the end.
