T.J. LAWRENCE PASSES AWAY LATE TUESDAY
                    (May 29, 1945)
     Thomas James Lawrence, 76 years of age and well know throughout this
locality, died Tuesday evening at 6:10 o'clock at St. Mary's hospital. He had
been a patient at the hospital since Saturday
evening and had been in poor health for about four months.
  Mr. Lawrence was born on June 4, 1868, in DeKalb, the son of William H.
and Ann (Kitely) Lawrence. He was educated in this vicinity and was a farmer
for practically his entire life. He spent eight years a Mahnomen, Minnesota,
farming and returned to the Cortland community where he has made his home. On
December 27, 1895, he was married to Elizabeth Church of DeKalb, Illinois,
Mrs. Lawrence passing away in July of 1926 and a son, Thomas, Jr., succumbing
in February of the same year.
    He was a member of the Methodist church of Cortland, Illinois. His
passing is mourned by eleven children, Raymond (Elizabeth) of Forest Park,
Illinois, Mrs. Fannie (Earl) Esterbrook of Sycamore, Illinois, William in the
Merchant Marines, Ralph of Sycamore, Illinois; (twins) Mrs. Mildred (Glenn)
Kaiser of DeKalb, Illinois and Mrs. Marie (Julius) Loraas of Mahnomen,
Minnesota; Robert (Evelyn) of Cortland, Illinois, Mrs. Florence (Edward)
Williams of Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Etta (Jack) Beck of Seneca, Illinois;
Mrs. Ethel (Leonard) Bergeron of DeKalb, Illinois; and Clarence (Dorothy) of
Sycamore, Illinois. There are 40 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren
and a sister Mrs. Mary (William) Simpson of Sycamore, Illinois.
    Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 o'clock from the Nelson
and Ronan mortuary with Rev. Allan Billman in charge. Burial will be in the
Mound Rest cemetery at Cortland, Illinois. Friends may call at the mortuary
until the time of the services.

STROKE
   Thomas James Lawrence, age 76, passed away last Tuesday in the St.
Mary's Hospital, DeKalb, his death was caused by a paralytic stroke. He has
been a resident of Sycamore for about four years coming from DeKalb, Illinois.
    Funeral services were held Friday, June 1, 1945, at 1:30 o'clock at
the Nelson and Ronan Funeral home with the Rev. Allen Billman officiating.
Interment took place at Cortland cemetery.
    He was preceded in death by his wife and one son who both died in the
year 1926. Those left to mourn his death are eleven children; Raymond
(Elizabeth) of Forest Park; Mrs. Fannie (Earl) Esterbrook of Sycamore; Mrs.
Mildred (Glenn) Kaiser of DeKalb; and her twin sister Mrs. Marie (Julius)
Loraas of Mahnomen, Minnesota; William serving in the Merchant Marines; Ralph
of Sycamore; Robert (Evelyn) of Cortland; Mrs. Florence (Edward) Williams of
Chicago; Mrs. Etta (Jack) Beck of Seneca; Mrs. Ethel (Leonard) Bergeron of
DeKalb; and Clarence (Dorothy) of Sycamore; also his 40 grandchildren and 8
great-grandchildren; one sister Mrs. Mary (William) Simpson and several
nieces and nephews.
