DEATH OF JOSEPH PETRIE

It is painful to be compelled from time to time to chronicle the death
of one and another of the gallant and invincible volunteers of Illinois;
and especially painful when they were representatives in the army from
our county and town.  Joseph Petrie died at Corinth, Miss., Oct. 6,
1862, aged 17 years.  He was a member of Company C, 52 regiment,
Illinois Volunteers.  He was a son of Mr. Leonard Petrie of this town,
who has yet, we believe, three sons in the army.  We cannot be too
particular in commemorating the names of our fallen soldiers.  During
the past year citizens have bid farewell to many a hale and generous
fellow whom they will never welcome back.  This tribute no true citizen
will refuse to pay and it may be some consolation to the hearts of
fathers and mothers who have lost their sons.
