Wm. T. Smith, 80, Life Long Sandwich Resident Dies Mon.
He United With the Methodist Church In His Youth
William T. Smith, age 80, life long resident of Sandwich,
passed away at noon on Monday at the Sandwich hospital. Mr. Smith had not been
in good health for some time. He observed his 80th birthday on
Friday of last week.
William T. Smith was born in Sandwich, on May 6, 1858. He
was the son of Edward S. and Eliza Harrison Smith. On January 1, 1882, he was
united in marriage to Agnes Can Order, who preceded him in death Dec 24, 1935. Their entire married life was spent in Sandwich.
Nine children were born, eight of whom are still living: Grace Johnson, Mable
Tooley, Maurice and Vernon of Sandwich; Roland of Kansas City, Missouri;
Raymond of Chicago; Wilbur of Lake Odessa, Michigan; and Stanley of San Diego, California.
One son, Lyle, preceded him in death.
He united with the Methodist church in his youth and was an official and active member until the infirmities of age prevented his attendance. Beside his immediate family he leaves to remember him, three brothers and one sister: Alfred Smith of Newport Beach, California; Walter Smith of Detroit, Michigan; Clarence Smith of Sandwich; and Mrs. Clara Humiston of Sandwich; twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church, the Reverend Cedric Pope officiating. Interment was in Oak Ridge cemetery. Six grandsons, Forrest Tooley, Weston Tooley, Wayne Smith, Harley Smith, Wendell Smith and Leonard Johnson, acted as pall bearers.
