Carl Palmquist Dies Today at the Hospital

    Carl G. Palmquist, a prominent business man in DeKalb for a number of years, died this morning, October 24, 1953, at the Glidden Memorial Hospital.  He had been ill the past month. For many years he operated a grocery and market in DeKalb and was engaged in business activities until his retirement three years ago.  His principal interest centered in his home, his church, and his business activities.


He was born in Vestergotland, Sweden the son of Pehr Magnus and Adalina Louisa Gabrielson, and attended the schools in Sweden. He came to the United States as a young man and settled in Chicago, coming to DeKalb in 1908.  He was united in marriage in Chicago to Matilda Perrson October 30, 1909.  For many years he had served as a trustee of the Mission Covenant Church where he was a member.


Surviving are his wife; two sons, Milford Palmquist of Los Angeles, and Edward Palmquist of DeKalb; a daughter, Alice Palmquist of DeKalb; three brothers and a sister.  A brother, Eric, resides in Chicago, and another brother Anders, in Minnesota. A brother and a sister reside in Sweden. A sister and three brothers preceded him in death.


Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Wirtz Funeral Home with Rev. David Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Wirtz Funeral Home from noon Sunday until the time of the services.
