MRS. ELLEN SULLIVAN
Friends of Mrs. Ellen Sullivan of 623 Ellwood avenue learn with sincere regret
of her death which occurred at her home yesterday afternoon about 4:30
o'clock. Mrs. Sullivan has been ill for several weeks and in the care of a
trained nurse. It was thought that she was much bettter and the nurse was
discharged, but her condition grew worse later in the week and on Sunday and
Monday her death was expected at any time.
Ellen Riley-Sullivan was born in County Kerry, Ireland, in 1881 (sic), and she
was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Riley. She came to Malta when she
was about 20 years of age, and shortly after she was united in marriage to
Michael Sullivan. They resided in Malta for several years, and later came to
DeKalb where Mrs. Sullivan has lived for the past fifteen years. In 1902 Mr.
Sullivan died after a lingering illness and Mrs. Sullivan has since that time
cared for her daughters who are heartbroken over her death. Three daughters
have passed away within the past three years, and the death of Mrs. Sullivan
is a terrible blow to the family.
Mrs. Sullivan has a wide circle of friends who are grieved at learning of her
death and will sympathise (sic) with the family in their trouble. Mrs.
Sullivan has always been a devout Christian and she was always kind and
cheerful toward those about her. In her home life she was always kind and
loving and her daughters will feel the loss most keenly there. She was a
member of St. Mary's church and an earnest church worker and she was also a
member of the Court of Honor.
Left to mourn her death are her brothers Michael and Patrick Riley of DeKalb
and sister Mrs. M. Keenan of this city. Six daughters survive and they are;
Jessie, Elizabeth, Mary, Frances, Irene, and Genevive.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning from St. Mary church at ten
o'clock and the interment will be at the Catholic cemetery.
